Anyone who has used Twitter or plurk has had the same problem.  You’ve got about 10 more characters to write, but no space left.  This is where Thsrs.com comes in handy.  Thsrs is a very simple thesaurus in which you can enter a larger word like “motorcycle” and it will return a group of words that mean the same thing, but are smaller like “bike” or “cycle”.

Thsrs uses Big Huge Thesaurus which is based on Princeton’s WordNet Database.  Based on some of the comments on the web site, it looks like there have been some concerns about the accuracy of the words in the thesaurus.  The about page for Thsrs mentions that there is supposed to a be a suggest link at the bottom of the page, but I can’t seem to find it.

Summize is a “conversational search engine” that currently offers real time search of twitter.  I say currently, because they are planning on adding additional conversational search capabilities to their site. (See their Labs section for a few prototypes they’re currently working on.)

One of the main advantages (and drawbacks) of Twitter is the sheer amount of information that happens at any given moment.  You’re gone for a few minutes and suddenly, there are several hundred posts that have wizzed past your main screen. Many bloggers, marketers, business owners, and just regular people use Twitter not only as a conversational tool, but also as a research tool to gather real time information about what people are talking about.  Whether it be a product review or maybe the presidental candidates at the time, Twitter lets you find out what people are talking about RIGHT NOW.   Unless you’re following everyone using twitter at any time… it’s almost impossible to really get a good sense of what people are talking about.
