edopter.com is a crowdsourcing project in social trends. Which is another way of saying that the site uses a large group of people to find and predict what will popular next. While the site is mainly oriented towards the early adopter crowd (hence the name “e-dopter”), anyone who’s interested in new and emerging technologies and trends will find this site very useful.

On top of early adopters and people who enjoy being part of the “in-crowd”, this site has a huge potential for marketers, businesses, and bloggers alike.  With it, you’d be able to identify which trends might be coming to a store or browser near you and get a leg up on the competition. More »

Me.dium.com/search is a new project by the social browsing application Me.dium.com and filters content based on what other people are currently browsing.

Before I can talk about the actual search application itself, it’s important to understand where the data supplying the search is coming from.  Me.dium’s first wave in the 2.0 pond came from their social browsing toolbar.  This is an application you can install into your browser that allows you to browse with your friends online; They can see what you are viewing, you can see what they are viewing, and you can chat between each other across web pages. Me.dium then collects the data from your browsing usage (with the appropriate amount of anonymity) to determine what are the most popular pages.

Instructables.com provides user contributed instructions for making gadgets and gizmos out of almost anything you can find around the house or at the local RadioShack.  The site has a extensive collection of projects ranging from food recipes to high tech tools and gadgets.

One of the definite advantages of the site is the step-by-step instructions available to visitors.  Most projects will typically include a list of materials needed along with construction photos that walk you through the process.  Now I say “most” because after all, it is a user contributed site, so some projects have better instructions than others. The site does have a good rating system, so you can typically weed out the good from the bad.
