Blinkx.com is the web’s most comprehensive video search engine with over 26 Million hours of video, delivered from over 350 media partners.

Blinkx is unique in the video search genre and is differentiated by it’s indexing technology. Instead of using technology developed for text based web search, Blinkx uses a patented technology originally developed by Cambridge University.

The paragraphs that follow will detail some of the unique features tools that make this site unique and extremely useful.

The Interface

When you initially visit Blinkx, you’re immediately bombarded with a gallery of different videos, with each video running a small intro instead of an icon.

This simple, yet unique feature continues throughout the site and is an extremely useful feature while trying to deal with copious amounts of information.  Instead of having to play each video - like you do in Youtube, Vimeo, or most other video hosting sites - Blinkx allows you to get a little preview of what each video contains prior to loading the video.

Once you perform a search for a video subject, say “patty cake”, you’re presented with a search results screen that has a video player on the left hand side of the screen and a list of other videos on the right.

Each of the search results provides you with the title, the summary, the source and also a few tools to share or save the video.  Plus, as I mentioned above, the site also presents you with a small preview icon of the video in question.

The Media Partners

One of the strengths of this site is it’s massive collection of video providers and media partners.  At the time of writing, Blinkx has over 350 different media partners it indexes and pulls video from.

Some of these you’ve heard of like Youtube, Hulu, Comedy Central, and other major media players, but it also includes a lot of little niche sites you’ve never heard of.  So, if you’re looking for anything on video, I’m sure you’ll be able to find it here.

The Wall

One of the unique and interesting functions of the site is the ability to embed a “video wall” onto your web site or blog. It’s actually easier to show you what I’m talking about rather than tell you, so I’ve embedded a video wall below.

Conclusion

With video and other rich media applications becoming more and more popular on the web, it’s difficult to find the video you’re looking for with so many options out there.  Blinkx has the technology and the reach to help find what you’re looking for.
