Anyone who has used Twitter or plurk has had the same problem.  You’ve got about 10 more characters to write, but no space left.  This is where Thsrs.com comes in handy.  Thsrs is a very simple thesaurus in which you can enter a larger word like “motorcycle” and it will return a group of words that mean the same thing, but are smaller like “bike” or “cycle”.

Thsrs uses Big Huge Thesaurus which is based on Princeton’s WordNet Database.  Based on some of the comments on the web site, it looks like there have been some concerns about the accuracy of the words in the thesaurus.  The about page for Thsrs mentions that there is supposed to a be a suggest link at the bottom of the page, but I can’t seem to find it.

This is a very creative and unique solution to a common problem.  The interface is very simple and I love the handwritten design of the logo.  Very well done site all around.

This is a cool little site, but you’re right… it does return some interesting results.

Might be a good way to pass the time as well as a reference tool :)
